Application for launching other applications?

I am looking for a program (or some other means short of always having to using native run commands) to run programs without having to have that many shortcuts on my desktop. It has gotten really cluttered with large amounts of these shortcuts, and I would like to organize it. I already have Steam, but I would like to keep that just to games if I can.
